The SADC Cyber Drill and AfricaCERT Meeting 2025

Kingdom of Lesotho through Ministry of Information Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, and LCA, successfully hosted the SADC Cyber Drill and AfricaCERT Meeting 2025, a major regional cybersecurity event aimed at strengthening cyber resilience across Southern Africa and the wider African continent.

The programme began with an optional Day 0 online DDoS Incident Response Training, delivered in collaboration with M3AAWG, which equipped participants with practical skills to respond to large-scale cyber incidents.

Day 1 (4 November) was convened as a closed session for SADC Member States, focusing on the status of national Computer Incident Response Teams (CIRTs), progress on the ratification of the Malabo Convention, and updates on cybersecurity legal frameworks across the region.

On Day 2 (5 November), participants took part in the SADC Cyber Drill and Cybersecurity Training Programme, which featured specialised tracks on cyber simulation exercises and ICS/OT cybersecurity, addressing emerging risks to critical infrastructure.

The event concluded on Day 3 (6 November) with a live cyber drill, during which participants tested their capabilities through real-time scenarios, including defending against stealthy cyber threats and advanced attack techniques.

The successful hosting of this event positioned Lesotho as a key player in regional cybersecurity collaboration, reinforcing collective preparedness against evolving cyber threats.
